On Views from an Appropriate Distance: Pittsburgh Airport Inspires in Very Narrow Spectrum
22Jun08
In which The Gay Recluse is rendered delirious by delays.
As we were waiting at the Pittsburgh airport, we were struck by the unexpected beauty of this stone riverbed.
And this one, too. It wasn’t too hard to imagine that we were out west somewhere.
But only if we didn’t let the scope of our vision get too wide!
This kind of looks like a jail.
Too close was also a mistake.

Thanks for finding God in the details, as you do so well (as with your Uncommissioned Subway Masterpieces). What does the last picture tell us about our culture? I have my own opinion, but then I’m a pessimist.
I’m inclined to agree with you about our shitty culture, C., and I’m definitely a pessimist. On the other hand, I find it somewhat miraculous that the world (by which I mean society as we know it today and how we interract with the more “natural” environment) is functioning at all, given all sorts of horrible things we’ve done to [fill in the blank]. Which is to say: are things the same or are they really getting worse? The eternal dilemma, lol.
